Happy “Be Kind to Humankind Week”…Today we celebrate “Sacrifice Our Wants for Other’s Needs Sunday”. Read on to find out more about this great day and how you can make it even greater!!

Sunday

Sacrifice our wants for Others Needs Sunday is a wonderful chance to do something for somebody else in need. One example is the time I took my grandmother out to a movie on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. The last place I wanted to be was inside a dark movie theatre when I could have been at the beach. But I adored my grandma and I would have done anything to make her happy. She was in a nursing home at the time and cherished getting out occasionally. Needless to say we had a great time together-I got over my selfish feelings of wanting to go to the beach instead, and I am so happy that I sacrificed my wants for my grandmothers needs on that Sunday! P.S. I TRY to practice what I preach everyday, not just this one week in August so there were many great days grandma and I spent together before she died.

Here are some suggestions to make your Sacrifice Our Wants For Others Needs Sunday better:

1. Visit an elderly relative in a nursing home.

2. Take your elderly family member out on a day trip.

3. Spend the afternoon with your children doing something fun together.

4. Mow a needy neighbor’s lawn.

5. Spend time alone together with your spouse doing something that pleases he/she rather than doing what you want to do.

6. If you attend a church or a place of worship, you can offer to donate some of your time to help out with the service, or even donate time after the service to help out with any special events the church may be having.

7. Join a fund-raising event. Especially a sports related one if you are athletic. For example, often times you will hear of people hosting running marathons to raise money for a needy cause.

8. Offer to walk the neighbors dog if he or she is unable to.
