Varadaraja V. Raman: "The Self: Scientific and Religious Perspectives"

From the scientific perspective, the Self is an emergent phenomenon which ceases once and for all after the demise of the physical body. From the religious perspective, it has an existence beyond the physical body and is in fact immortal. This lecture will explore the notion of the Self from the scientific as well as the religious perspectives which are traditionally incompatible. It will discuss the limitations in both views, and will offer a view which may bridge the two.
