"The Real Me"

This little video is supposed to be a funny commercial for a tax service, but it's really a sad reminder that so many of us are caught up in samsara, clinging to the unreal and attempting to define who we are by these illusions.

Please don't think I lack a sense of humor, because that isn't the case. But for whatever reason I was struck by this video. Maybe it's because I see so many women at the gym who have gotten implants for whatever reason, but obviously cosmetic.

So many of us try in so many ways to create a mask for the world to see -- and so often we try to convince ourselves that we are presenting our best selves, or true selves. Working in a gym can be like working in a bar -- watching all the masks interacting with each other, pretending to be whatever it is they are pretending. All the while they are hiding what they fear is their true self -- and oblivious to the light that is their Buddha Nature.

The Dove "Evolution" video did the same for me, though it was designed to. Dove has some very good things for young girls (I have a daughter who is just learning about boys and self-image, etc.) I thought this one was great. Can't remember if you already posted about it or not. The link is here:

Hey Aeryck,

Yeah, I've seen that one, but thanks for the reminder. Must be tough raising a daughter these days.

Peace,
Bill
