Dr. Alice Roberts - Are We Still Evolving?

Dr. Alice Roberts - Are We Still Evolving?

Dr Roberts asks one of the great questions about our species: are we still evolving?

There’s no doubt that we’re a product of millions of years of evolution.

But thanks to modern technology and medicine, did we escape Darwin’s law of the survival of the fittest?

Alice follows a trail of clues from ancient human bones, to studies of remarkable people living in the most inhospitable parts of the planet, to the frontiers of genetic research to discover if we are still evolving – and where we might be heading.

Are we still evolving? Seems to me to be a pretentious 21st century question. Surely it should be "Why do we think we're not evolving?" You honestly think this is as good as it gets?

Alan,

I agree - we are still in our infancy as beings. We are evolving, I believe, more rapidly now than maybe at any other time in our history - physically, psychologically, culturally, and even societally (although these last two can appear to devolve unless one takes a meta-perspective).

Most people, however, do not think about this or even believe in evolution.

Peace.
