Gratitude 9/12/07

Some things I am grateful for today:

1) Garlic. But I suspect my clients aren't so happy with my love of garlic.

2) My health. I have been blessed in my life not to have any serious health issues, aside from a whole mess of broken bones.

3) Sleep. I have been sleeping better lately, with a few exceptions, and I am grateful for that.

What are you grateful for today?

Well, let me see ...

1) I'm grateful to the soldiers who are dying in Iraq. I saw pictures of more of them at the end of the NewsHour tonight. Their deaths are a complete waste, probably. But I am grateful for their commitment, foolish though it may be. And I am always touched that the pictures are of honest-to-God real people, usually quite young with unlived lives, recently snuffed out or blown to pieces.

2) The Squid and the Whale which I saw tonight. A fascinating movie.

3) My fingers. [Knocking my brain for a third thing, lookin at my fingers on this keyboard while I'm thinkin. Paul Simon had a song once with lyrics "...just thanking the Lord for my fingers ...", but I think in the song we are to understand his fingers had just been on something other than a keyboard.]
