New Poem: Unconventional Love Sonnet #4

Unconventional Love Sonnet #4

The door opens into her inner world,
cats race to greet the stranger
whose presence is unexpected but
welcomed with affection. It feels holy,

like entering a sacred place,
as I hug the woman who has allowed me
into her life, prepared a meal
that we share over light conversation.

Such a difficult thing to feel so natural,
two people opening themselves
the way poppies open embraced by sun.

Later, in a quiet moment, I caress
her hair, let the silence hold us
in its womb, savoring this new life.
