Tami Simon - Rick Hanson: “You Can Change Your Brain”

I listened to this cool discussion while working out and driving home today. Tami asks goo questions, so even if you know little about the brain and neuroscience, this is understandable. Rick Hanson is the author of Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom (with Richard Mendius MD), a great book.

One of the important points he makes is that the human brain, through evolution, is primed for negativity - we look for and see negative situations and outcomes far more than we do positive outcomes and situations. This proclivity kept us alive through our evolution, but it no longer serves us well - which is why we need meditation and mindfulness.
