41-Year-Old Swimmer Dara Torres Sets US Record

Hell yeah! No longer is 41 old -- it's Olympic prime. Judging by this photo, she's in pretty damn good shape -- the younger women could only dream of looking like that.

This weekend, Dara Torres, having unretired for the second time, qualified for 2 events:
On Independence Day, the 41-year-old mother with a 2-year-old daughter, hoping to finish somewhere in the top six in the 100 freestyle to qualify for the 4x100-meter free relay, won the event in a time of 53.78 seconds, upsetting U.S. recordholder Natalie Coughlin.

Then, Sunday, she swam faster than any U.S. woman has ever swum in winning the 50 freestyle in 24.25 seconds. In second place was Jessica Hardy. She is a stunning 20 years younger than Torres.

And in case you might think she has prolonged her career with some illicit substances, think again. She volunteered for an U.S. Anti-Doping Agency pilot program in which she has had her blood and urine tested 12 to 15 times since March.

It's great to see talent and dedication rewarded. Read the whole story in USA Today.

  4. Anon,

She VOLUNTEERED to be drug tested in the most rigorous program that exists. She isn't doping.

And it seems to me she sees her kids as much as any other parent with an 8-hr a day job, maybe more.

    So what's your issue?

And she certainly doesn't look like any man I know - she looks lean and fit, unlike 95% of other Americans.

    Peace,
    Bill
