On This Day . . .

Today is 9/11 in case someone was living under a rock and missed all the fanfare. It's been five years since I stood in my living room in Seattle and watched airplanes fly into the World Trade Center, since I watched people jumping to their deaths.

Bush is running around with his staff pronouncing us safer from terrorists, while the Dems are arguing that the war in Iraq has made us less safe. Meanwhile, many thousands of people are mourning the loss of friends and family members five years ago this morning.

Tuff Ghost posted this as a reminder.

As we go through the day and are bombarded with jingoism, paranoia, and angry rhetoric, let us remember those who died and those who lost loved ones. And let us also remember all those who have died since that day -- and the many thousands who will continue to die in the name of religion and in the name of fear.
