Once upon a time, Eddie Van Halen was the baddest guitarist on the planet. Nothing could equal Eruption's power and finesse. It's still one of the best solos ever written.
So here is Eddie playing a live extended version of "Eruption."
And here is young violin wizard Bobby Yang playing "Eruption" on his violin. This kid rocks.
ok, that was bad ass! crazy:P that kid is wicked awesome. both are equally cool in their own right, but it's amazing how well he mimicked the solo and guitar sound.
ReplyDelete"Serious skills" is an understatement, Bill! Thanks for those videos! And I agree with you that "Eruption" is one of the "best solos ever written." It had an incredible impact on the guitar world when it came out. As for today, my vote for the "baddest guitarist on the planet" goes to Allan Holdsworth, and Eddie would surely agree, even if almost nobody but guitar afficianados have ever even heard of him.

Very, very cool.
ReplyDeleteAnd steve, I'll have to check out Alan Holdsworth!
ebuddha, Wikipedia has a great article on Holdsworth and a couple of good links. The man is from another, more evolved planet, guitaristically speaking. :-)

Glad you guys liked this. And thanks for the tip Steve, I'll certainly check out Holdsworth.
