The future of the sport--including the Tour de France--looks very bleak from this point. A friend of mine at the gym, a fellow Tour fan, made the interesting observation that drugs in sport are no more, really, than a reflection of the role that drugs have assumed in our society at large: they are prescribed as the answer to everything, from insomnia to depression to "erectile disfunction."
